This story follows the life of Danny and Jill.
Jill is a young women, who had a terrible upbringing with a drug addicted mother. AT the age of 17 Jill took her mom to court and won custody of her baby brother in order to give him a better upbringing than she had. 4 years later she is still giving that boy a better life only problems seem to be coming in from all angles.
Danny is a member of the Maccini Family. AKA Mafia Familia. truthfully I am not quite sure what part he fits in or what role he plays but he is the calm before the storm is there interpretation i got from him. He saved Jill and helped get her out of her mothers house. He had feelings for her from the very first second he saw her but hid them down because he knew he as older and she needed to live. He also didn't want his demons to chase her away.
These two put off their feelings for each other until Jill decides that it is time she started living well is sort of given the opportunity to start living and goes on a date with a young bar man which makes Danny finally wake up and release that he wants her and needs her to be his.
I enjoyed reading this story however I felt like we just kept jumping from one thing to the next and sometimes without being given a better explanation of what had happened or why. To me this was a very soft mafia book and for the first 3/4 I wouldn't really have known it was.
I absolutely Loved the last quarter of the book it was fast paced and had plenty going on, i just wish this had flowed more throughout.
Some of the things I loved were the bond between the rest of the characters and I absolutely adored Jamie he just seemed so sweet and yet grownup and vulnerable. I just wanted to wrap him up and keep him safe.
I really enjoyed the characters and cant wait to read more of K.B. Barretts work.
